What it is

Channel letters are individual letters fixed to the building, usually with a metal return around each one and a face in acrylic or metal. Many are lit, from inside the letter or from behind it so the wall glows.

Because each letter stands on its own, the spacing and the height on the fascia decide how the sign reads from the street. That is what a preview on your own photo lets you judge.

Where it goes
  • Fascia

The band above the windows and door: the usual home for channel letters.

  • Wall

A blank stretch of wall, for a building with no fascia band.
